What makes a home homey

I want to start this post by asking myself "what home means to me?".Well home for me is where i can feel cozy and comfortable, it's where i love spending my free time.Home is the place that i'm eager to go to after a long day and just curl into my cozy blanket, and feel complete happiness for a bit.On the other hand home isn't always about where you at but with whom.
The second question would be "what makes a home homey?" I will answer this question with 6 hacks for home.

Find the perfect sofa. It doesn't have to be expensive or a designers but comfortable. It has to make you feel comfy pay attention in their texture and color. But of course avoid furniture that have poor structure, you don't want to invest money to anything that can last less than 10-15 years.

Add texture. Many people feel restful and calm by touching a silk fabric or something fluffy.Use blankets and throws either on the couch or in bed. In addition to providing warmthand can also give color to monochrome furniture.

Make your living space smell nice adds a much happier tone than a stinky, gloomy one. Scents can affect a person's mood or work performance. Think about walking into your home after a day of work and smelling fresh cinnamon and baking cookies. You can either buy home fragrances or you can even make your own.

Choose your color. It has been scientifically proven that a person's mood and body temperature can change according to the color of a room.Red was used to stimulate the body and mind and to increase circulation, yellow was thought to stimulate the nerves and purify the body, orange was used to heal the lungs and to increase energy levels, blue was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain, indigo shades were thought to alleviate skin problems.

Lights can be especially important in a room. You have to choose to light the right areas, like your desk or the sofa that you usually read your book. Poor illumination of the necessary spots can cause fatigue or even vision problems.

A detail you like.Could be a red sofa,a weird shaped table,a patterned rug or anything that reflects your personality.

Creating your very first apartment!

Creating your very first apartment
Being a student myself I know how hard it is to feel like home in a different house than the one you grew up! It’s a life situation that many find it hard to cope with but trust me it gets better. You’ll soon realize that it’s better having your own place to reflect, think and do all the things that your parent didn’t allow you to do before. It get even more awesome when you don’t have to sleep in the bed that you slept since you where 5 or when you don’t have to put up with your mothers obsolete taste in furniture. Now you get to choose what kind of style your house is going to be, get to put your personal taste in it, and sooner or later you’ll call this YOUR home!
The hardest part of the whole situation is to make it feel like a home. It should be the place that you can relax after a long day in college and feel safe in it, the place that will support you!
There are a few steps that will help you begin regardless the budget.

Small space solutions
Most dorms are pretty small in space therefore you feel smothered and tired living in them.
  • ·        Start by seeing which spaces are spacious and sunny. You don’t want to put your bed or your desk in a room that the sun comes in the afternoon, those areas should be illuminated for most of the day.
  • ·         Make a floor plan. It will help you organize your thoughts and create an image of the room. Don’t forget to place the windows and doors (while opening).
  • ·       Try a table behind the sofa or somewhere in the living room. Avoid this solution if you have a roommate.

  • ·         You can divide areas in your house with curtains. Isolate your bed and closet in a quiet place.

  • ·         If your house has a spare closet use it as a desk, you can even add a self for storage

Low budget

  • ·        No couch? No problem! One of the easiest but yet affordable solution for this are pallets, their price ranges from 3-5 Euros. They are very strong, unbreakable and easy to transform. Place on it big cushion 65x65 or your old mattress and cushions for back. Pallets can be used also as coffee table, bookshelves, beds and a lot more things than you can imagine!

  • ·         Check out online stores(amazon.com) they got some pretty cool stuff in a low price . And of course IKEA.
  • Use books or magazines for nightstand, the colorful covers will give a playful and interesting twist to your room. You can also use ladder and old vintage suitcases that will add a romantic touch to your room.

Decoration

  •           Choose a few large artworks to bring focus to walls. A big piece of art is a great way to add personality to your space without painting.
  •        Add something fluffy. A fake sheepskin draped over a chair, a cuddly throw on the sofa or a knit blanket on the bed makes a space feel comfy and homey. A warm rug underfoot can help immensely, too. Try a flat-weave in the dining space (easier to clean) and something really warm and fluffy beside your bed so you can sink your toes into it on chilly mornings.
  •       Add some baskets. Facing an organizing problem? No matter what it is, or what room it’s in, baskets can probably help. Choose open-top baskets if you want to be able to see the contents, lidded baskets if you want to hide them.
  •        Treat yourself to something just because you like it. It’s your apartment — don’t forget that! So when your budget allows, go ahead and treat yourself to those pretty candles, that terrarium tray or that art book you’ve had your eye on. It’s the personal touches you’ve chosen just because you love them that will begin to make your first rental feel like home.
MOVE IN/OUT

All people have gone thought a moving in/out , to some this process is a tough one when for others can be unexpectedly resuscitative. Either way it’s a project that requires a lot of work. There are 5 stages to this to make it easier

Decide which furniture from your old home you need to carry at your new one
Through away all the damaged furniture and donate or give away for recycle those that you just can’t stand the sight of them anymore. Be honest with yourself and don’t hold back the junk if it’s not functionable.
Once you gather the furniture you want to keep you have to put an order. Before you put all things in boxes take pictures of them or sketch them. This way you’ll have a better overview of what goes where.
Light bulb emoticon  Remember this! Measure everything! Once you’re in your new house you want to know in which areas your furniture fit.

   Draw a floor plan

Sketch the floor plan in pepper on in a pc program if you are familiar with any (autocad, sketchup, photoshop). You certainly have to remember to pay attention to where the windows are cause that’s where your light source is.
Light bulb emoticon   Focal point.Put your sofa in a position that looks on tv,fireplace, or window and at the same time communicates with the other chairs

Choose the function of each room
How each room is used is up to you because for deciding this you have to take under consideration your lifestyle and personality. What are the things that you do through the day? Do you watch tv alone or with friend and family? Do you spend more time in your house or out? Do you have people coming over? Ask yourself some of these questions and a plan in your mind, and walk through the rooms to start getting an idea of how it’ll look.

Decide what styles you are in to

Knowing what styles you like is going to save you lots of time and money, you don’t want to invest in bohemian cushions and rags when you have a pop sofa. You have be comfortable in the place you live in and not feel like “this is too much for me” or “this is not me”. One easy way to understand what kind of style you are into is to check your social media accounts, likes on decoration pages on facebook, pins on pinterest or the couch that you so much liked on this casavogue issue another one is just to take a look at your closet, fashion and decoration are pretty much associated.

   Set a budget

Be sure to make an honest calculation of what you can spend and what you really need. Create a list of the things you need. Once again think of your daily needs and your routine, do you cook or you order? Do you have pets? Do you have a roommate or you live alone?
